Senate Democrats Probe Google’s Alleged Secret Deal with Trump Lawyers

Senate Democrats led by Elizabeth Warren have demanded answers from Google CEO Sundar Pichai and YouTube CEO Neal Mohan regarding potential behind-the-scenes negotiations with former President Donald Trump. The inquiry centers on a lawsuit Trump filed in 2021 after being banned from multiple social media platforms following the January 6 Capitol riot.

The lawmakers' letter expresses concern that Google may settle Trump's YouTube lawsuit in a quid-pro-quo arrangement, potentially shielding the tech giant from other legal challenges. This development comes as Google faces mounting pressure over alleged violations of federal competition, consumer protection, and labor laws.

Notably, Facebook and Twitter have already settled similar lawsuits with TRUMP for $25 million and $10 million respectively. The delayed court proceedings in Google's case—now pushed to September 8—have raised suspicions among Democratic senators about the nature of the ongoing discussions between Trump's legal team and YouTube's lawyers.
